To the ancient Egyptians the dung beetle was the symbol of resurrection. Like the sun rising on the horizon every morning the beetle -  „the one who comes into being" - is born from its dung ball. The sun-beetle thus dispensing light and warmth became a favoured amulet and was given as a burial object to the deceased being a symbol of the new life in the beyond.

About 4,000 B.C. the cylinder seal replaced the stamp seal which has been commonly used in Uruk for a long time. On this brooch the impression of such a cylinder seal can be seen. It shows a ruler in executing a cultic animal feeding. The scene is framed by symbols of the goddess Inanna, goddess of the city of Uruk.
